Da Nang fines polluting companies
Da Nang – based Ha Long Canned Food Co. and Procimex Viet Nam were each fined VND40 million (US$1,900) for discharging untreated effluents into their surroundings.
The People's Committee of the central city also handed down fines totalling VND85 million (US$4,050) to Dana-Y Steel Joint Stock Company for polluting the environment.

City spends $6m on preventing landslides
HCM City has invested VND141 billion (US$6.7 million) this year in several projects to prevent landslides in Binh Thanh, Thu Duc, and Nha Be Districts, according to the Waterway Area Office.
A VND65 billion, 700m riverbank fortification project, which began later last year along Thanh Da Canal in Binh Thanh District is nearing completion.
Many spots in Nha Be and Binh Thanh Districts along the banks of the Long Tau and Sai Gon Rivers face the risk of landslides.

Fish feed prices up, likely to keep rising
The prices of fish feed have increased by nearly 40 per cent since April, and the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers expects them to keep rising because import prices of raw materials for feed are increasing.
Nearly 40 per cent of the inputs used in domestic production of feed are imported.

Free medical check-ups for poor in Can Tho
Doctors from Can Tho's Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients on Sunday gave free medical check-ups to 800 poor patients in Thai Hoa, Thanh Hoi, and Thanh Phuoc villages in Binh Duong Province's Tan Uyen District.
They also presented blankets and mosquito nets to 400 poor people the district.
