Belgian experts aid in mystery skin disease

Two Belgian experts, an epidemiologist and a hepatologist, have assisted doctors from the HCM City Children's Hospital No. 2 in finding out the cause of the strange skin disease in Quang Ngai Province's Ba To District.

The doctors also discussed with the district Health Preventive Medicine centre and Healthcare Centre the development of the disease and treatment being used.

In Ba Dien Commune, they took rice samples for testing and studied the environment and water in the hope of discovering the cause of the disease.

Check on use of ‘real' funeral money

The People's Committee of Binh Phuoc Province has ordered the Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism, police, and other agencies to investigate along with the State Bank of Viet Nam a recent instance of real money being scattered during a funeral.

Tran Van Hung of Dong Phu District's Phu Thuan Commune and his family carried his son's coffin to a cemetery around 15km away. Along the way, they scattered VND1,000 to VND5,000 notes on the road instead of ‘ghost money' used in the burning of votive offerings as a local belief.

Hippo delivers offspring in Binh Duong

The Dai Nam Theme Park in Binh Duong announced that three of its zoo animals — a hippopotamus, squirrel monkey, and Indochinese langur — gave birth on Tuesday.

Duong Thanh Phi, the park director, said it is rare to see a hippopotamus give birth in a zoo. It took the animal 30 hours to deliver.

The park houses 14 species of animals.
