Cham language class open for teachers

The Ministry of Education and Training has begun classes for advanced training in the Cham language for 30 ethnic Cham language teachers working in primary schools in central Binh Thuan and Ninh Thuan provinces. The classes will last four and a half months. The two provinces have the largest Cham populations in the country.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has forecast that pepper exports this year will top 123,000 tonnes worth US$894 million. Global prices of the spice have recently risen by 20 per cent.

Delta faces threat of pig blue-ear disease

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has warned provinces in Cuu Long Delta to step up the fight against pig blue-ear disease which has resurfaced in Bac Lieu Province. It said the delta faces the threat of an outbreak of the disease.

Blue-ear disease is also spreading in the northern provinces of Hoa Binh, Quang Ninh, Bac Ninh, Lang Son, Lai Chau, and Dien Bien.

National Highway 1A to be widened

National Highway 1A that runs from Ha Noi to Can Tho City in the Mekong Delta will have four lanes, a Government action programme has decided. The two-lane highway would be widened by 2016 as part of the Government's efforts to improve traffic infrastructure.

The construction sector accounted for 36 per cent of workplace accidents last year, according to a report by the International Labour Organisation and Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs. The mining sector accounted for a fifth of the 6,000 cases that affected 6,154 workers.
