Shrimp disease causes $238m loss
Shrimp diseases have caused losses of up to VND5,000 billion (US$238million) to farmers in Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta provinces since last year, these figures were recently released by the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta's coastal provinces.
Tra Vinh Province suffered the highest losses, with VND2,300 billion. Diseases affected more than 8,000ha of shrimp farms in the province, including 6,800ha and 7,800ha in Soc Trang and Ca Mau provinces. Prices of shrimp materials have dropped VND20,000 to VND50,000 a kilo this year, also causing difficulties for farmers, according to Ca Mau Province's Sea Products Import and Export Association.

Quang Nam, Sekong provinces co-operate
Officials of central Quang Nam Province and Sekong Province of Laos met on Monday in Tam Ky City to discuss ways to strengthen co-operation between the two provinces. From now to the end of this year, Quang Nam will help Sekong in its socio-economic development projects and personnel training at its universities and colleges.

Can Tho export revenue rises
The Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta City of Can Tho has this year exported 320,000 tonnes of rice and 75,000 tonnes of seafood. Since the beginning of this year, the city recorded export revenue of US$635 million, an increase of 8 per cent compared with the same period last year.

HCM City to plant new trees
HCM City's Urban Transport Management Centre with approval from the city's authorities will replace 272 trees on 23 streets with new ones to beautify city streets and to make the streets safe during the rainy season. Flaming, crape myrtle and tamarind trees, among others, will be planted on the city streets by the centre's workers from June to August.
