International expert to assist in study on disease control
An American expert from the US-based Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Thailand will arrive in Viet Nam today to assist local scientists in their study of a mysterious skin disease that has affected 240 people, killing 22, in Ba To District in the central province of Quang Ngai.
Experts from the Ministry of Health have collected and tested 1,940 samples of soil, water, hair and fingernails. It is expected that the CDC expert will send samples to CDC's laboratory in the US.

Customs contributions to State budget decline
As of the end of May, the Customs General Department had collected VND81.5 trillion (US$4 billion) or 36.4 per cent of this year's plan for the State budget. The figure is 5.7 per cent lower than that in the same period last year.
Economic difficulties have led to the situation, including a lower GDP growth (4 per cent compared with 5.57 per cent in 2011), tighter financial and monetary policy, high bank interest rates, high expenditures, an increased percentage of goods in stock, slow sales, and many company bankruptcies.
In 2012, Customs targets to collect $11 billion for the State budget, of which $4 billion would come from exports and special consumption taxes, and $7 billion from value-added taxes.

State Bank warns public about increased fraud
The Governor of the State Bank of Viet Nam (SBV) last week announced that more fraud had occurred with money transfers at ATMs nationwide.
According to information from the police, some people, pretending to be staff from a lottery company or the State treasury, tell subscribers of fixed telephones in remote and rural areas that they can win prizes. They ask local residents to transfer a sum of money into their banking account as a deposit for the winning prize. They then open a banking account under a phony personal identification and deposit all the money they have received from the people they have deceived.

Nation urged to promote domestic tourism
Every year, around 2 million Vietnamese travel abroad and spend US$2 billion.
"Domestic tourism is being ignored while the potential is very huge," said Vu The Binh, deputy head of the Viet Nam Tourism Association. "Viet Nam should pay more attention to attracting both local and foreign tourists for domestic tourism."
