HCM City will spend VND50 billion (US$2.4 million) to set up lane dividers on many streets including Nguyen Tat Thanh Street in District 4, Truong Chinh Street in Tan Binh District, Vo Van Kiet Street in District 5 and Nguyen Van Linh Street in District 7. Officials say a large number of accidents have occurred on these streets over several years because cars and motorbikes often encroach into each other's lanes.

HCM City inspects worker housing

The quality of dormitories built in HCM City by individual households to house migrant workers is being inspected by the municipal Construction Department since last week. The inspection will focus on living quarters in Thu Duc, Nha Be, Cu Chi and Binh Chanh districts as well as districts 7 and 12, where a large number of low-cost dormitories have been built for rent.

A similar inspection last year found 40 per cent of dormitories built by individual households did not meet standards set by the city's authorities.
